About
Sophie deJesus is currently a an MFA candidate at the School of the arts Institute of Chicago, with a Bachelors in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Their work is a reflection on the Filipino-American Experience. Coming to terms with what it means to be removed from their culture, which in turn has been erased and rewritten by centuries of colonization.
Through the research of precolonial tattoo and textile traditions, and lived experience they create sculptural works that confuse the boundaries of body and object.
